Nanak says: carry Your servant across, O One, and look on me with Your kind glance.
We are like small children, and the One is like a loving father who cares for us.
Ham baarik har pitaa pratipaalee — I am a child, and the One is my Father who looks after me. Pratipaal means to feed, raise and care for.
Then Guru Ram Das asks for one thing. Nadar nihaalee — look at me with Your kind glance. Nadar means the One's glance of grace.
Think of a little kid on stage at a school concert. They are nervous. Then they spot their parent in the crowd, smiling. One warm look, and they can do it. A single glance from the One is enough to carry us across.
