meeting with the Guru, my Spiritual Teacher, I realize God, my Lord and Master. ||5||3||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Kabir says: this is what I declare.
Meeting the Guru, the Pir, I have recognized my own Lord and Master.
Meeting the true teacher, you recognize the One who was yours all along.
Meeting the Guru, you recognize your own Lord and Master.
Gur peer: Guru and Pir, the spiritual teacher named in a Hindu word and a Muslim word side by side. Khud khasam pachhaanaa: I recognized my own Master, the One who was always my own. Guru and Pir together seal the shabad's unity. The closing words, kaho kabeer, "Kabir says," sit in a shabad listed under Guru Arjan; many readers hear Guru Arjan taking up Kabir's voice here.
