Hunting With The Saints

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਲੇ ਚੜਿਓ ਸਿਕਾਰ ॥
satsang lay charhi-o sikaar.
I go out hunting with the Saints,
ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਪਕਰੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੋਰ ਹਥੀਆਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
marig pakray bin ghor hathee-aar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
and we capture the deer without horses or weapons. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Together with the saints, I set out on the hunt,

and we catch the deer without horses or weapons.

The Sangat does quietly what force never can.
The deeper layer

In the company of holy people, the wild mind is caught without horses or weapons.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Santsang is the company of the saints, the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. That company is itself the method. The paradox is deliberate: the deer are caught bin ghor hathee-aar, without horses or weapons. Nearness to peace is what changes the restless mind.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life makes you calmer just by being around them?
