saaDhsang paavhu param gatay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall obtain the supreme status. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Take in the teachings of humble, holy people.

In the Sangat, the company of the holy, you will reach the highest state.

The highest state is reached by absorbing, not by climbing.
The deeper layer

Take in the teachings of holy people, and in the Sangat you reach the highest state.

This is the rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole shabad, the part everything else leans on. It holds the cure for the closed heart.

Sant janaa kee layho matay: take in the teaching of humble, holy people. Don't just hear it. Let it into you.

Saadhsang is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. In that company you reach param gatay, the highest state.

Think of a tea bag in hot water. It doesn't try hard. It just sits there, and slowly the water changes color. Sit with holy people, and their goodness soaks into you. You reach the top by receiving, not by straining. It is what Japji Sahib calls suniai, deep listening that lets truth sink in.

A Question to Sit With

Whose wisdom would you like to let soak in more deeply?
