Verse 3 of 5

Alive In The Name

ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਨ ਸੁਣਿ ਜੀਵੇ ॥
rasnaa naam karan sun jeevay.
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with my tongue, and hearing it with my ears, I live.
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਮਰ ਥਿਰੁ ਥੀਵੇ ॥੨॥
parabh simar simar amar thir theevay. ||2||
Meditating, meditating in remembrance on God, I have become eternal, permanent and stable. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Saying the Naam with my tongue and hearing it with my ears, I live.

Remembering the One, again and again, I have become lasting, steady and still.

Keeping the One in mind is what it feels like to be fully awake.
The deeper layer

Saying the Naam and hearing it is what keeps you alive inside, and remembering the One makes you steady.

Rasnaa naam karan sun jeevay: the tongue speaks the Naam, the ear hears it, and life follows. Simar simar amar thir theevay: remembering again and again brings a settled steadiness that lasts, like a tree whose roots go deep.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do that makes you feel fully alive?
