Honored In The Court

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥
saaDhoo sang hovai uDhaar.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I am saved.
ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰ ॥੨॥
sobhaa paavai parabh kai du-aar. ||2||
I am blessed with honor in God's Court. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the Sangat, the company of the holy, I am carried across.

I am given honor at the One's door.

The Sangat carries you across, to a door already open.
The deeper layer

The Sangat carries you across, and the One welcomes you with honor.

Saadhoo sang hovai udhaar means "in the company of the holy, I am carried across." Saadhoo sang is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Udhaar is being carried safely over.

Think of crossing a busy street holding hands with friends and a trusted grown-up. Together, you all get across.

Then sobhaa paavai prabh kai du-aar: "I receive honor at the One's door." Sobhaa means honor, and du-aar is a door. This honor is the warm welcome of a door that is already open.

A Question to Sit With

How does the company you keep change where you end up?
