Chanting and meditating on the Lord, the whole world is saved. ||4||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Nanak says: I have found the treasure of the Naam.

Chanting and remembering the One, again and again, the whole world is carried across.

One heart singing the Naam lifts far more than itself.
The deeper layer

The treasure of the Naam lifts the whole world.

Naanak paa-i-aa naam nidhaan means "Nanak has found the treasure of the Naam." Naam is the living presence of the One. Nidhaan is a treasure.

Then har jap jap udhri-aa sagal jahaan: "remembering the One again and again, the whole world is carried across." Jap means to repeat, to keep remembering.

Think of one person in a room who starts to laugh. Soon the whole room is smiling. Remembering the One is like that. It lifts far more people than the one who holds it. The shabad ends full of hope for everyone.

A Question to Sit With

How might one person's goodness ripple out to touch many?
