In plain words

The One, Narayan, keeps the One's servants safe from those who do wrong.

No one can save the one who does wrong. The wrongdoer is worn away by his own actions.

Your own actions quietly carry their results back to you.
The deeper layer

The One keeps you safe from people who do wrong, and their own deeds catch up with them.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Paapee tay raakhay naaraa-in: the One protects us from those who do harm. Naaraa-in is a name for the One.

Paapee pachi-aa aap kamaa-in: the one who does harm is worn down by their own doing. Aap kamaa-in means "what they earned themselves." It is like a boomerang: what you throw comes back to you.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

How have you seen a choice come back around to the one who made it?
