In plain words

They have lost their starting money, so how can they earn any profit? A muddled mind is empty of wisdom.

Thinking deeply on the Word, they taste the sweetness of the One. Nanak says: their trust settles in the Truth.

Weigh the Word and taste the One, and you come to rest in what is true.
The deeper layer

Lose your starting money and there is no profit; taste the Word, and you settle in Truth.

Here is a picture from the market. Kho-i-o mool: you have lost your starting money. How can you make any profit?

Think of a lemonade stand. If you spend all your money on stickers, there's nothing left to buy lemons. No lemons, no lemonade, no profit.

The verse says a mind caught in durmat, muddled thinking, loses its wisdom this way. It is pulled in every direction. It chases everything and keeps nothing.

Then comes the turn. Sabad beechaar raam ras chaakhi-aa: think deeply about the Word, and you taste the sweetness of the One. Naanak saach pateenay: Nanak says your trust settles in what is true. Sach, truth, is what lasts.

A Question to Sit With

What feels most solid and true to you when everything else is noisy?
