Only One, Nothing Else

ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮੂਆ ॥
akul niranjan si-o man maani-aa man hee tay man moo-aa.
My mind is pleased and appeased with the Immaculate Lord, who has no ancestry. Through the mind itself, the mind is subdued.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਆ ॥੪॥੬॥੭॥
antar baahar ayko jaani-aa naanak avar na doo-aa. ||4||6||7||
Deep within my being, and outside as well, I know only the One Lord. O Nanak, there is no other at all. ||4||6||7||

In plain words

My mind is at peace with the pure One, who has no family tree. Through the mind itself, the mind has grown still.

Inside me and outside me, I know only the One. Nanak says: there is no other at all.

Settle into the One, and the restless sense of me quiets down all by itself.
The deeper layer

When the mind settles in the pure One, it quiets itself, and you see only the One everywhere.

Akul niranjan: the One with no family line, pure and spotless. Man hee tay man moo-aa: the mind is stilled through the mind itself, by understanding, without force. Ayko jaani-aa... avar na doo-aa: only the One, no other.

Think of a glass of muddy water. Stop stirring, and the mud settles by itself. Then you can see straight through.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever felt, even for a second, that everything is somehow connected?
