Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the mortal is never liberated; he remains blindly entangled in the expanse of worldly affairs. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Busy with worldly work, a person loses all honor, and the foolish one's doubt never goes away.

Without the Guru's Word, no one is ever set free. Blind to the way, they stay tangled in a spreading mess of busy affairs.

You can be busy all day and still be lost; sometimes the answer is to slow down.
The deeper layer

Staying busy with nothing else can cost you your honor and leave you confused, and the Guru's Word sets you free.

Dhandhaa karat saglee pat khovas: busy with affairs, a person loses all honor. Bharam na mitas: doubt does not go away. Andhulay dhandh pasaaraa: like someone who cannot see, they keep spreading out more and more busyness.

Think of a hamster on a wheel, running fast and getting nowhere. The Guru's Word is what lets you step off.

A Question to Sit With

When has slowing down helped you more than speeding up?
