Held, So Why Fear

bhairo mehlaa 5.
Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:
rog kavan jaaN raakhai aap.
Why worry about disease, when the Lord Himself protects us?
tis jan ho-ay na dookh santaap.
That person whom the Lord protects, does not suffer pain and sorrow.
jis oopar parabh kirpaa karai.
That person, upon whom God showers His Mercy
tis oopar tay kaal parharai. ||1||
- Death hovering above him is turned away. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Why worry about illness, when the One protects us?

The one the One protects is not troubled by pain and sorrow.

When the One showers kindness on someone, even death, hovering over them, is turned away.

Knowing you are held takes the sharp edge off fear.
The deeper layer

When the One keeps you safe, illness and sorrow lose their hold on you.

Rog kavan jaa raakhai aap: what illness can trouble you, when the One protects you? Dookh santaap are pain and sorrow. Kirpaa is kindness freely given. Kaal parharai: death, hovering close, is turned away. The fear of it loses its grip.

A Question to Sit With

What worry feels smaller when you remember you are not facing it alone?
