A Help That Never Leaves

sadaa sakhaa-ee har har naam.
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is forever our Help and Support.

When He comes to mind, the mortal finds lasting peace, and the Messenger of Death cannot even approach him. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Naam of the One, Har, Har, is always our helper and friend.

Whoever keeps the One in mind finds lasting peace, and death cannot even come near.

The One is a friend who never leaves.
The deeper layer

The Naam is a friend who never leaves, and with it in mind, peace stays.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Sadaa sakhaa-ee: always a friend, always a help. Jis cheet aavai: whoever brings the One to mind finds sadaa sukh, a peace that lasts. Nikat na aavai taa kai jaam: death cannot come near such a person. Its fear has no hold there.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone you can always count on to be there?
