The Source Of Everything

jab ih na so tab kineh upaa-i-aa.
When this being did not exist, who created him then?
kavan mool tay ki-aa paragtaa-i-aa.
What has been produced from the source?
aapeh maar aap jeevaalai.
He Himself kills, and He Himself rejuvenates.
apnay bhagat ka-o sadaa paratipaalai. ||2||
He cherishes His devotees forever. ||2||

In plain words

When this being did not yet exist, who made it then? From what source did it all come?

The One Himself brings life to its end, and the One Himself gives life again.

The One always cares for His devotees.

The One who ends each season also begins the next.
The deeper layer

Every life comes from the One, and the One who ends a life also gives life, always caring for the devotees.

Jab ih na so tab kineh upaa-i-aa: before you were here, who made you? Kavan mool tay: from what root? The questions point back to the One Source. Aapeh maar aap jeevaalai: the One ends life and the One gives it again. Think of the seasons: autumn closes the year and spring opens the next, inside one flow of existence. Sadaa pratipaalai: the One cherishes the devotees always.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that had to end so that something new could begin?
