In plain words

Meeting the Guru, I gave up being pulled two ways.

Turned toward the Guru, I chant the Naam of the One.

My worry is gone, and I am in love with the Naam.

I was asleep for lifetimes upon lifetimes, and now I am awake.

Turning toward what matters can feel like finally waking up.
The deeper layer

Meeting the Guru, you wake up: worry fades and love for the Naam takes its place.

Gur mil ti-aagi-o doojaa bhaa-o: meeting the Guru, I gave up doojaa bhaa-o. That means the love of "the second thing," being pulled two ways between our own wants and the One.

Gurmukh japi-o har kaa naa-o: turned toward the Guru, I say the Naam of the One.

Bisree chint: my worry went away. Love for the Naam took its place.

Janam janam kaa so-i-aa jaagaa: I was asleep for lifetimes, and now I am awake. Think of waking up on a sunny Saturday after a long, heavy sleep. You stretch, and everything looks bright.

A Question to Sit With

When has something suddenly clicked and made you feel wide awake?
