The Treasure Found At Last

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰੀਤਿ ॥

Immaculate is the Glory, and Immaculate is the way of life,

of those who remember the Supreme Lord God in their minds.

The Guru, in His Mercy, has granted this Gift.

Nanak has obtained the treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||33||46||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Spotless is the good name, and spotless is the way of living, of those who keep the Supreme One in their minds.

In kindness, the Guru has given this gift. Nanak says: I have found the treasure of the Naam.

The best treasures arrive as gifts, not prizes.
The deeper layer

Keep the One in mind, and your life and your good name stay clean; the Naam comes as a gift.

Nirmal sobhaa nirmal reet: a spotless good name and a spotless way of living. They belong to those in whose minds paarbarahm, the Supreme One, has come to stay. Kar kirpaa gur deeno daan: the Guru, in kindness, gave the gift. Naanak paa-i-aa naam nidhaan: Nanak found the Naam, a treasure.

Think of a birthday present from someone who loves you. You did nothing to earn it, and it is still the best thing in the room.

A Question to Sit With

What is a gift you have received that money could not have bought?
