The One Who Reads Every Heart

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਇ ॥

The Creator is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

That person, whom the Lord makes His Own, becomes stable and steady.

The Lord's slave is true in the Court of the Lord.

Servant Nanak speaks, after contemplating the essence of reality. ||4||41||54||

In plain words

The Creator knows what is inside every heart.

The one whom the One makes the One's own grows steady and unshaken.

The One's servant stands true in the One's court.

Servant Nanak says this after thinking deeply about what matters most.

Everything inside you is already known, so you can simply be honest.
The deeper layer

The Creator knows every heart, and the one held close by the One grows steady.

Antarjaamee kartaa so-ay: the Creator is the inner-knower, the one who sees into every heart. Har jan karai so nihchal ho-ay: whoever the One makes the One's own becomes nihchal, steady and unshaken. Har kaa daas saachaa darbaar: the servant stands true in the court of the One.

Jan naanak kahi-aa tat beechaar: servant Nanak speaks after thinking about the heart of the matter, the tat, the essence.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to be known by someone all the way through, and why might that be a relief?
