In plain words

Following the Guru's teaching, I find kindness and a content heart.

The treasure of the Naam is the purest thing there is.

Be kind to me, O One, and keep me holding on to the edge of Your robe, like a child holding a parent's hand.

Nanak says: every day I keep the One's lotus feet in my thoughts.

Following what's good grows kindness and a contented, settled heart.
The deeper layer

The Guru's teaching grows kindness and contentment, and the Naam is the purest treasure.

Gur updays da-i-aa santokh: through the Guru's teaching come da-i-aa, kindness, and santokh, contentment, a heart that feels it has enough. Naam nidhaan nirmal ih thok: the treasure of the Naam is spotless.

Kar kirpaa leejai larh laa-ay: by grace, attach me to the hem of Your robe, the way a small child holds on to a parent in a crowd. Charan kamal naanak nit dhi-aa-ay: Nanak keeps the lotus feet of the One in his thoughts every day. Lotus feet are a picture of the One's gentle, beautiful presence.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that leaves you feeling deeply content, not just excited?
