Seas And Rivers Under The Same Sky

ਰੋਗੀ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਸਨਦੀਆ ਖੰਡ ਪਤਾਲ ਸਿ ਰੋਗਿ ਭਰੇ ॥
rogee saat samund sandee-aa khand pataal se rog bharay.
The seven seas are diseased, along with the rivers; the continents and the nether regions of the underworlds are full of disease.
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਲੋਕ ਸਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ਸਰਬੀ ਥਾਈ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੫॥
har kay lok se saach suhaylay sarbee thaa-ee nadar karay. ||5||
The people of the Lord dwell in Truth and peace; He blesses them with His Grace everywhere. ||5||

In plain words

The seven seas and the rivers carry the sickness; the lands and the deep worlds below are full of it.

The One's people live in Truth and peace; everywhere, the One looks on them with grace.

No matter how far the trouble seems to spread, closeness to the One reaches just as far.
The deeper layer

The ache reaches every sea and land, and the One's grace reaches every place too.

Rogee saat samund sandee-aa — the seven seas and the rivers carry the ache. Khand pataal se rog bharay — every land and every deep place is full of it. The picture is as big as a globe.

Then comes a gentle turn. Har kay lok se saach suhaylay — the people of the One live in truth and ease. Sarbee thaa-ee nadar karay — the One's nadar, the kind look of grace, reaches every place.

Think of a phone call from someone who loves you. It reaches you whether you are across the street or across the ocean. The world is huge, but grace is close.

A Question to Sit With

What is a peaceful feeling that can find you no matter where you are?
