No One Is Above The Cure

ਰੋਗੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਸਰੁਦ੍ਰਾ ਰੋਗੀ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
rogee barahmaa bisan sarudraa rogee sagal sansaaraa.
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are diseased; the whole world is diseased.
ਹਰਿ ਪਦੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਭਏ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੪॥
har pad cheen bha-ay say muktay gur kaa sabad veechaaraa. ||4||
Those who remember the Lord's Feet and contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad are liberated. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva carry the sickness; the whole world carries it.

Those who come to know the One's feet and think deeply on the Guru's Word are set free.

No one is too great to need the healing, and no one is too small to receive it.
The deeper layer

No one is too great to need the cure, and no one is too small to receive it.

Rogee barahmaa bisan sarudraa — Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are named here. In the Hindu tradition around Guru Nanak, they were the greatest of all beings. The verse names them with full respect, as vast and mighty. And still it says the same ache can touch them. Rogee sagal sansaaraa — the whole world has it.

Then comes the cure. Har pad cheen bha-ay say muktay — those who hold the One in mind become free. Gur kaa sabad veechaaraa — they think deeply on the Guru's word. It is like a school where the only thing that counts is learning. Your name, your size, and your title don't matter. Understanding sets you free, not rank.

A Question to Sit With

Why do you think it can be just as hard for powerful people to feel connected as for anyone else?
