Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You can't reach the deepest things just by talking a lot about them.
They come by kindness, and by keeping your heart turned that way, quietly, again and again.
When your whole self soaks in good, true words, the One comes to live inside you.
This Shalok deflates mere talk: "by talking and speaking, He is not found" — spirituality is not won by clever words or endless discussion. "Without His Merciful Grace, no one finds Him; many have died barking and bewailing" — the vivid image of noisy, fruitless striving. What actually works is quieter: tan man saache... bhij rahay — when mind and body are "saturated with the Shabad," the One "comes to dwell." Grace plus a soaked, sincere heart, not a loud tongue. For a child: you can't reach the best things just by talking about them — you have to let them soak in.
What's something you can only really understand by doing it, not just talking about it?
