ਜਾਲੁ ਪਸਾਰਿ ਚੋਗ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੀ ਪੰਖੀ ਜਿਉ ਫਾਹਾਵਤ ਹੇ ॥
jaal pasaar chog bisthaaree pankhee ji-o faahaavat hay.
The net has been spread out, and the bait has been scattered; like a bird, you are being trapped.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਨ ਕਉ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਵਤ ਹੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੮੮॥
kaho naanak banDhan kaatan ka-o mai satgur purakh Dhi-aavat hay. ||4||2||88||
Says Nanak, my bonds have been broken; I meditate on the True Guru, the Primal Being. ||4||2||88||

A net gets spread and bait scattered, and it is easy to get caught like a bird that did not see it.
Nanak says: to cut those cords, I keep the Guru, the Primal One, in mind, and I walk free.
Even when you are caught, the cords can be cut.
jaal pasaar chog... pankhee ji-o faahaavat — the bird-and-net image. banDhan kaatan ka-o... satgur purakh Dhi-aavat — the bonds broken by dwelling on the true Guru. Freedom is where all of this ends.
