Says Nanak, when God becomes merciful, one meets with the Guru, who takes him by the arm, and lifts him out. ||2||10||96||

In plain words

It is easy to feel like you have slipped down into a dark, low place, wrapped in fog and tangled worries.

Nanak says: when the One is kind, you meet the Guru, who reaches down, takes you by the arm, and lifts you right out.

However far down you feel, a hand can reach you.
The deeper layer

Even into the darkest place, a hand reaches down.

AnDh koop means a deep, dark well. The verse says a person has fallen into it, caught in bharam, doubt, and moh, clinging. Put simply, it is feeling stuck and low, wrapped in fog.

Then the shabad turns to rescue. Kaho naanak parabh hot da-i-aaraa — Nanak says, when the One is kind, gur bhaytai, you meet the Guru. Kaadhai baah faray — the Guru takes you by the arm and lifts you out. Think of a friend reaching down to pull you up after you slip on the ice.

That turn is the heart of this verse. Being stuck is never the end of the story.

A Question to Sit With

Who has reached out and pulled you up when you felt low?
