Mercy Poured Out, and the Guru Carries You Over

God has showered His Mercy upon His humble servant; meeting with the True Guru, he is carried across. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, keep singing the Naam of the One who holds all beings.

The One has poured out mercy on His servant; meeting the True Guru, that servant is carried right across.

You do not cross by your own strength — mercy is poured out and carries you over.
The deeper layer

Here is the answer to the opening question: you are carried across; you do not have to swim it alone.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.

Narhar is a name for the One who holds all beings. The mind is told to keep singing that Name.

The crossing does not come from being strong. It is received. Grace is Dhaaree, poured out, like rain on a field. And the Guru, the Satgur or true teacher, is the one who ferries you over. Think of a lifeguard who pulls you onto the boat. Your part is to reach out.

A Question to Sit With

When has help arriving turned an impossible-feeling task into something you got through?
