When you take the Guru's teaching to heart and live it, your actions turn clean and true, and the door to freedom opens.
Nanak says: living from the Guru's teaching carries your whole family along with you.
Living the teaching makes your actions clean, and the good spreads to your family.
Gurmat maani-aa karnee saar — accepting the Guru's teaching, your actions become pure. Gurmat means the Guru's teaching. Maani-aa means truly accepting and living it, not just agreeing. It is the same idea as mannai in Japji Sahib. Gurmat maani-aa mokh du-aar — living the teaching, you find the door to freedom. Mokh means being set free.
Naanak gurmat maani-aa parvaarai saaDhaar — the one who lives it carries their family along too. Think of one person at home who starts saying thank you at dinner. Soon everyone does. Goodness widens outward.
How can one person's good choices make a whole family or group better?
