In plain words

When you meet the Guru, you receive a great gift. It is not loud or showy. It is a deep steadiness that lifts sorrow off your heart.

The One comes to live inside you. Colored through and through by that presence, you find a peace that does not run out.

The truest greatness is a steadiness that lifts sorrow.
The deeper layer

Meeting the Guru brings a great gift: a calm that lifts sorrow.

Satgur mili-ai vadee vadi-aa-ee — meeting the True Guru brings great greatness. It is not loud or showy. It is a deep steadiness. Dukh kaatai hirdai naam vasaa-ee — pain is cut away as the Name comes to live in the heart. Think of a warm blanket on a cold night. The cold is still outside, but you are held.

Naam ratay sadaa sukh paa-ee — dyed in the Name, you find peace that lasts. Ratay means colored all the way through, like cloth soaked in dye.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your life brings a calm that makes hard things feel lighter?
