The Body That Shines Like Gold

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
satgur sayvi-ai doojee durmat jaa-ee.
Serving the True Guru, duality and evil-mindedness are taken away.
ਅਉਗਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਤਿ ਖਾਈ ॥
a-ugan kaat paapaa mat khaa-ee.
Guilty mistakes are erased, and the sinful intellect is cleansed.
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥
kanchan kaa-i-aa jotee jot samaa-ee. ||6||
One's body sparkles like gold, and one's light merges into the Light. ||6||

In plain words

Serve the Guru with a true heart. Then the split, restless feeling inside -- the pull between this and that -- begins to settle and heal.

Old faults get gently cleaned away. You start to shine, like plain metal polished into gold. Your little light and the great Light become one.

A cleaned-up heart shines, like plain metal polished into gold.
The deeper layer

A cleaned-up heart shines like gold.

Satgur sayvi-ai doojee durmat jaa-ee — serving the True Guru, doojee and durmat go away. Doojee means the split feeling of being pulled two ways. Durmat means troubled, tangled thinking. A-ugan kaat paapaa mat khaa-ee — faults are cut away, and the harmful way of thinking is washed clean.

Think of polishing an old brass pot. The dull layer comes off, and the shine was there all along. Kanchan kaa-i-aa jotee jot samaa-ee — the body shines like gold, and the small light joins the great Light.

A Question to Sit With

What is a habit that, once cleaned up, made you feel lighter and brighter?
