The Mind That Dances

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਨਾਚੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਤੂਰ ਵਜਈਆ ॥
ih man naachai satgur aagai anhad sabad Dhun toor vaja-ee-aa.
This mind dances before the True Guru. The unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds, vibrating the celestial melody.
har har ustat karai din raatee rakh rakh charan har taal poora-ee-aa. ||5||
I praise the Lord, day and night, moving my feet to the beat of the drum. ||5||

In plain words

Before the Guru, the mind starts to dance -- and a music no instrument can make begins to sound inside.

Then you praise the One day and night, your feet keeping time, your whole self joining the beat.

*Love turns even the mind into a dancer.*
The deeper layer

Joy fills the mind, and it starts to dance.

Ih man naachai satgur aagai means this mind dances in front of the True Guru. Anhad sabad Dhun toor vaja-ee-aa means the anhad sabad, the unstruck music inside, begins to play. It is music no hand plays, like a song that keeps going in your head after a wonderful day.

Har har ustat karai din raatee means the mind praises the Lord day and night. Rakh rakh charan har taal poora-ee-aa means the feet keep time to the Lord's beat. Think of everyone at a family wedding, dancing without even deciding to. Devotion here is a celebration with your whole body. It is joy, not a heavy duty.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you want to move, hum, or dance without being told to?
