The Lord is the pool, and the Lord Himself is the ocean; this world is all a play which He has staged.

As the waves of water merge into the water again, O Nanak, so does He merge into Himself. ||8||3||6||

In plain words

The One is the pond and also the whole ocean, and this whole world is a game being playfully played.

Nanak says: just as waves rise up out of the water and then fall back and become water again, everything comes home into the One, who fills it all.

*Every wave was always water, and returns to water.*
The deeper layer

Everything comes home to the One, like waves to water.

Har sar saagar har hai aapay means the Lord Himself is the pond, and the Lord Himself is the ocean. Ih jag hai sabh khayl khayla-ee-aa means this whole world is a play He has staged.

Ji-o jal tarang jal jaleh samaaveh means just as waves of water merge back into the water. Think of a wave at the beach. It rises up and looks like its own thing for a moment. Then it falls back, and it was water all along. Naanak aapay aap rama-ee-aa means, Nanak says, the One blends back into Himself. Feeling apart is only a passing shape. Coming home is already sure.
