One may perform many rituals, but the mind is filled with hypocrisy, evil deeds and greed.

When a son is born in the house of a prostitute, who can tell the name of his father? ||6||

In plain words

You can go through all the outer motions, and still have a heart full of pretending and wanting.

Actions with no love behind them have no root -- like a plant with nothing to hold it in the ground. It is love that gives what you do its roots.

*Deeds without love have no root; love is what holds them.*
The deeper layer

kar kar kiriaachaar... pakhand karam kapat -- piling up rituals while the heart is full of pretense. Deeds without love are rootless. Empty ritual is questioned in every tradition alike.

A Question to Sit With

What gives the things you do their meaning?
