The One is the master and also the servant — the One who holds the world is, in the end, everything, all by itself.
Nanak says: the One alone is at work in it all; and just as the One keeps us, that is how we live.
In the end, everything is the One.
Aapay Thaakur aapay sayvak — the One is the master, and the One is the servant too. Even the line between the one who serves and the one who is served melts away. Guru Amar Das often sings the same way, with aapay … aapay, "the One Itself … the One Itself." It is the idea of Ik Onkar: One Creator in all things.
Then comes ji-o raakhai tivai rahanday — as the One keeps us, so we live. This is Hukam, the way things are meant to flow, met with trust. Think of a child in the back seat, calm because a loving parent is driving.
