In plain words

On the twelfth day, picture a heart that stays awake -- not sleepy, not zoned out, but gently alert and paying attention, day and night.

Awake like that, lovingly resting on the One, you stop being pushed around by the five old troublemakers inside -- anger, greed, ego, and their friends.

Nanak says: when those lose their grip, you settle into a calm that nothing can disturb.

Stay gently awake inside, and the things that push you around lose their grip.
The deeper layer

duaadas, the twelfth day. The mind "not attached to the twelve signs" (the zodiac / the twelve mudras) stays awake -- jaagat jaag rahai -- spiritually alert rather than drowsy. panch bairaa-ee -- the five inner "enemies" (lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride) rendered as troublemakers whose grip loosens. The closing kaal na khaa-ay is again softened away from death-terror.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be awake and paying attention, instead of going through the day half-asleep?
