On the last day, everything gathers into one lesson: build your home inside your own heart, and you find a place that is beautiful and can never be taken away.
You come to know your own self when you find the Guru. And here is the freeing part: when you stop being ruled by endless wanting-more, the cracked old bowl of "me first" and being pulled two ways simply falls apart.
Nanak says: I would gladly serve anyone who lives free like that -- right in the middle of everything that tugs at us, and still unhooked, still at peace.
The closing pauri of the Thittee. ghar dar thaap -- establishing the home within, echoing the rahau's mahal ghar. jah aasaa tah binas -- where anxious grasping and expectation rule, there is ruin (aasaa here as craving, not healthy hope). footai khapar dubidhaa -- the "bowl of duality" cracks. udaasaa is the householder ideal: detached-yet-present. The whole calendar dissolves into a single point -- the sacred lives in the turned, un-grasping heart, on every day alike.
What would it feel like to carry home around inside you wherever you go?
