Verse 6 of 11

Peace That Settles in the Body

gurmatee saaNt vasai sareer.
Through the Guru's Teachings, peace and tranquility abide within the body.
sabad cheeneh fir lagai na peer.
Remember the Word of the Shabad, and you shall never suffer pain.
aavai na jaa-ay naa dukh paa-ay.
You shall not have to come or go, or suffer in sorrow.
naamay raatay sahj samaa-ay.
Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall merge in celestial peace.
naanak gurmukh vaykhai hadoor.
O Nanak, the Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present, close at hand.
mayraa parabh sad rahi-aa bharpoor. ||5||
My God is always fully pervading everywhere. ||5||

In plain words

Let the Guru's teaching soak in, and a calm settles right into you -- in your thoughts and in your whole body.

Keep the Word close, and the old aches of worry ease. Carrying the Naam in your heart, you sink into a deep, natural peace. Nanak says: the one who turns to the Guru sees the One right here, close at hand, filling everything.

Peace can settle into your whole self, body and mind.
The deeper layer

gurmatee saant vasai sareer -- peace that lives in the body, an embodied calm, not just a pleasant idea. sahj samaa-ay -- merging into sahaj, natural ease. gurmukh vaykhai hadoor -- beholding the One ever-present, close at hand: the intimate, near divine, never a distant judge.

A Question to Sit With

Where in your body do you feel it when you are calm?
