Sikhism·Raag Bilaaval·Shabad 163
Verse 5 of 11

Held by the One, What Is There to Fear?

jis daa saahib daadhaa ho-ay.
One who belongs to the All-powerful Lord and Master
tis no maar na saakai ko-ay.
- no one can destroy him.
saahib kee sayvak rahai sarnaa-ee.
The Lord's servant remains under His protection;
aapay bakhsay day vadi-aa-ee.
The Lord Himself forgives him, and blesses him with glorious greatness.
tis tay oopar naahee ko-ay.
There is none higher than Him.
ka-un darai dar kis kaa ho-ay. ||4||
Why should he be afraid? What should he ever fear? ||4||

In plain words

When you belong to the One who holds all power, you are safe in a way nothing can undo.

Stay close, under that shelter, and you are forgiven your stumbles and lifted up. There is nothing and no one higher than the One -- so what is there to be afraid of?

When you belong to what holds everything, fear loses its grip.
The deeper layer

saahib daadhaa -- the all-powerful protector to whom one belongs. rahai sarnaa-ee -- staying in shelter; aapay bakhsay -- forgiveness given freely, grace not earned. ka-un darai, dar kis kaa ho-ay -- "who is afraid, and of what?" -- the nirbhau (fearlessness) of the Mool Mantar, arriving here as the natural fruit of belonging to the One.

A Question to Sit With

What makes you feel safe?
