Sikhism·Raag Bilaaval·Shabad 163
Verse 8 of 11

Every Day Is Beautiful With the Word

thitee vaar sabh sabad suhaa-ay.
All the lunar days, and the days of the week are beautiful, when one contemplates the Shabad.
satgur sayvay taa fal paa-ay.
If one serves the True Guru, he obtains the fruits of his rewards.
thitee vaar sabh aavahi jaahi.
The omens and days all come and go.
gur sabad nihchal sadaa sach samaahi.
But the Word of the Guru's Shabad is eternal and unchanging. Through it, one merges in the True Lord.
thitee vaar taa jaa sach raatay.
The days are auspicious, when one is imbued with Truth.
bin naavai sabh bharmeh kaachay. ||7||
Without the Name, all the false ones wander deluded. ||7||

In plain words

Here is the secret about lucky days: every single day -- every date on the calendar, every day of the week -- turns beautiful the moment you fill it with the Word.

The days themselves just come and go, over and over. What stays steady is the Word, and that is what carries you home.

A day is auspicious, a day is good, whenever your heart is soaked in truth. It was never about the date -- it was always about what you brought to it.

No date is lucky by itself -- any day turns good when you fill it with the Word.
The deeper layer

The hinge verse that ties this hymn to its two neighbors. thitee vaar sabh sabad suhaa-ay -- all the lunar days and weekdays become beautiful through the Shabad, not by their calendar rank. thitee vaar sabh aavahi jaahi -- the days come and go; gur sabad nihchal -- the Word alone is unchanging. This is the exact relocation of the Thittee (Shabad 161), the Vaar Sat (Shabad 162), and the Baarah Maaha epilogue: no day is holy in itself; the turned heart makes it so.

A Question to Sit With

Could you make an ordinary day special just by how you show up for it?
