The Jewel Worth Everything

bha-i-aa samaahrhaa har ratan visaahaa raam.
Joy has come! I have purchased the jewel of the Lord.
khojee khoj laDhaa har santan paahaa raam.
Searching, the seeker has found the Lord with the Saints.
milay sant pi-aaray da-i-aa Dhaaray katheh akath beechaaro.
I have met the Beloved Saints, and they have blessed me with their kindness; I contemplate the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.
ik chit ik man Dhi-aa-ay su-aamee laa-ay pareet pi-aaro.
With my consciousness centered, and my mind one-pointed, I meditate on my Lord and Master, with love and affection.
kar jorh parabh peh kar binantee milai har jas laahaa.
With my palms pressed together, I pray unto God, to bless me with the profit of the Lord's Praise.

Prays Nanak, I am Your slave. My God is inaccessible and unfathomable. ||2||

In plain words

Joy has come — I have found a jewel more precious than anything: the One.

Searching and searching, the seeker found it among the saints. Those dear, kind saints shared their warmth, and together we turned over the truth that words can barely hold.

With my mind pointed one way, I keep the One close with love. Hands pressed together, I ask for the treasure of praising the One. Nanak says: I am your servant, and my One is vast beyond measure.

The seeker finds the most precious jewel among the saints.
The deeper layer

Har ratan visaahaa — the jewel of the One, purchased. Khojee khoj laDhaa: the seeker searched and found. Santan paahaa — found among the saints, the Guru's people: the very place of finding. Katheh akath: speaking the unspoken. Har jas laahaa: the profit and joy of praise. Agam athaahaa: inaccessible, unfathomable.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people who bring out the best, truest part of you?
