Water Mingles With Water

Sublime are those eyes, which are drenched with the Love of the Lord.

Gazing upon God, my desires are fulfilled; I have met the Lord, the Friend of my soul.

I have obtained the Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord's Love, and now the taste of corruption is insipid and tasteless to me.

O Nanak, as water mingles with water, my light has merged into the Light. ||4||2||5||9||

In plain words

Lovely are the eyes soaked in love for the One.

Seeing the One, every wish is filled — I have met the Friend of my very soul. I have tasted the One's sweetness, and now the flashy stuff the world offers tastes flat and dull.

Nanak says: like water blending into water, my light has merged into the great Light — no seam, no separation, all one.

Once you have tasted what is real, the flashy stuff just tastes flat.
The deeper layer

Ras bhini-aRe... say loin neeke — eyes drenched in love are the lovely ones. Ichhaa punnee: wishes fulfilled. Saajan jee kay: the Friend of the soul. Amrit ras... bikhi-aa ras feekay: the One's sweetness makes the world's flashy taste go flat — falsehood (koorh) set beside Truth (sach). Jal jaleh samaa-i-aa, jotee jot meekay: water into water, light into Light — the closing merge, oneness itself, sealing the whole set.

A Question to Sit With

What is something quietly wonderful that made a flashy thing seem boring?
