Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who serve the Guru are lifted from powerless to strong.
With every breath and every bite, the One lives in their minds, and no fear can even find them.
The Name fills their hearts, and the pull of things becomes their servant instead of their master.
To serve the ones who serve the One is to hold the greatest treasure there is.
Nanak says: I am forever devoted to the one in whose mind and body the One lives.
Those whose hearts are ready find their joy among the saints.
A Guru Amar Das shalok, quietly radical. Taan nitaanay -- the powerless become powerful -- is a promise to the small and the overlooked. Jam johi na sakai (Death cannot even spot them) is softened to "no fear can find them." The lovely reversal: kavlaa sayvak tis -- Maya, the pull of wealth and things, becomes the servant of the one rooted in the Name, rather than the boss. And the humility image: har daasaa kaa daas -- serving those who serve is itself the highest treasure.
When have you felt strong not because you were powerful, but because you were sure of what mattered?
