Sikhism·Raag Bilaaval·Shabad 184
Verse 3 of 4

Awake in Every Heart

ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਸੰਧਿ ਮੈ ਪੇਖਿਆ ਘਟ ਹੂ ਘਟ ਜਾਗੀ ॥
tarikutee sanDh mai paykhi-aa ghat hoo ghat jaagee.
I gaze upon the world, the confluence of the three qualities; God is awake and aware in each and every heart.
ਐਸੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਮਾਚਰੀ ਘਟ ਮਾਹਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥੨॥
aisee buDh samaacharee ghat maahi ti-aagee. ||2||
Such is the understanding revealed to me; within my heart, I have become a detached renunciate. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Looking closely at the world, I saw the same One awake and alive inside every single heart — no exceptions.

That understanding changed me from the inside. I did not have to go anywhere; I found freedom right where I stood.

The same One is awake inside every heart.
The deeper layer

trikutee sandh mai paykhi-aa — gazing at the meeting of the three gunas (qualities of nature). ghat hoo ghat jaagee — the One awake in every heart. ghat maahi ti-aagee — becoming a "renunciate" within — inner freedom, not outer withdrawal. Seeing the One everywhere is itself liberating.

A Question to Sit With

What changes when you imagine the same spark of life inside everyone you meet?
