Everywhere, From The Beginning

ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਂਈ ਰਵਿਆ ਆਪਿ ॥
sabhnee thaaN-ee ravi-aa aap.
He Himself is pervading everywhere;
ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਵਡ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥
aad jugaad jaa kaa vad partaap.
from the very beginning, and throughout the ages, His Glory has been radiantly manifest.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਸੰਤਾਪੁ ॥੨॥
gur parsaad na ho-ay santaap. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, sorrow does not touch me. ||2||

In plain words

The One is not off in some far corner of the sky — the One is spread through every place, and has been shining since before time even started, all the way through every age.

And when that truth lands in you, sorrow loses its grip. It simply cannot reach all the way in.

The One has filled every place since before time began — and that nearness is what sorrow cannot get past.
The deeper layer

The One is everywhere, and has been from the start.

Sabhnee thaaN-ee ravi-aa aap — the One fills every place. This is Ik Onkar as a presence here with us, not a ruler far away. Aad jugaad means from the very beginning and through every age. It echoes the Mool Mantar, the opening lines of the Guru Granth Sahib, which say aad sach, true at the beginning.

Then: gur parsaad na ho-ay santaap. By the Guru's grace, sorrow does not settle in. Grace here is not a prize for good behavior. It is a sheltering nearness that was always there. Think of WiFi in the house. It works whether you notice it or not.

A Question to Sit With

Does it change anything to imagine that nowhere you go is ever empty of the One?
