ਧਰਤਿ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਭਈ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਏ ॥
Dharat puneet bha-ee gun gaa-ay.

durat ga-i-aa har naam Dhi-aa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The sins are eradicated, meditating on the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The ground turned holy as we sang the One's praises.

The wrongs we carried were gone as we held the Naam in mind.

Singing turns ordinary ground holy, and holding the Name lightens the heart of what it carried.
The deeper layer

Singing the One's praises makes ordinary ground holy.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Dharat puneet bha-ee gun gaa-ay — the ground becomes holy when people sing the One's praises. Holiness is not locked away in special buildings. It shows up wherever hearts turn to the One. A kitchen table where a family sings together can be holy ground.

Durat ga-i-aa means the wrongs the heart carried are gone. That happens through har naam dhi-aa-ay, holding the Name in mind. It feels like putting down a heavy backpack at the end of a long day.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a place that feels special to you only because of what happens there?
