Only If You Draw Me Near

ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
mat buDh surat naahee chaturaa-ee.
I have neither intelligence, wisdom, common sense nor cleverness.
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
taa milee-ai jaa la-ay milaa-ee. ||3||
I meet You, only if You lead me to meet You. ||3||

In plain words

I will not pretend I have it all figured out — I am not the cleverest or the wisest person around, and that is just honest.

So the meeting is not something I can force by being smart. I come close to You only when You reach out and draw me near. And that is okay — I trust that.

You do not have to be the cleverest to be drawn close — the One reaches for you.
The deeper layer

Mat budh surat naahee chaturaa-ee — neither intelligence nor wisdom nor cleverness: an honest admission, said without putting yourself down. Taa milee-ai jaa la-ay milaa-ee — the meeting happens only when the One draws you into it. Union is initiated by grace; the seeker's part is trust, not force.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you have been trying to force that might work better if you just let it come?
