nain santokhay parabh darsan paa-i-aa.
My eyes are content, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of God's Darshan.

Says Nanak, such a life is fruitful and rewarding. ||4||4||9||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My eyes have wanted so much, chasing after one thing then the next, never quite satisfied. And now, at last, resting on the One, they are content — they do not need to keep hunting.

Nanak says: a life that finds that kind of peace has come to something. It bears fruit.

When the eyes finally rest on the One, they stop hunting — and that peace is a life well lived.
The deeper layer

Nain santokhay prabh darsan paa-i-aa — the eyes are content, having found the One's sight. Santokh — contentment — is arrival: the end of restless hunting. Kaho naanak safal so aa-i-aa — such a coming into the world is fruitful; a life that reaches this rest has come to something.

A Question to Sit With

What is something your eyes are always chasing? What might it feel like for them to rest?
