That I May Never Forget

ਐਸੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
aisee kirpaa karahu parabh mayray.
Please, bless me with such Mercy, O my God,
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਸਰੁ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਬੇਰੇ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੯॥
har naanak bisar na kaahoo bayray. ||2||1||19||
that Nanak may never, ever forget You. ||2||1||19||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Please, my God, show me this kindness.

Nanak says: let me remember You always, at every moment.

The best thing to ask for is a heart that keeps remembering what matters.
The deeper layer

One gift matters above all: to remember the One always.

Aisee kirpaa karahu — please show me this kind of grace. Kirpaa means kindness freely given. Grace here is something you ask for and receive. It is not a prize you earn.

The prayer is bisar na kaahoo bayray — may I never forget You, not even once. Put the other way round, it means: may I always remember You and hold You close. Think of a favorite song you know so well that it plays in your head all day. That is the kind of remembering the Guru asks for.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you never want to lose sight of?
