A Moment With the Beloved

ਕਰਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਅਤਿ ਘਨੀ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਉ ਹੋਮਾਗਉ ॥
kara-o bayntee at ghanee ih jee-o homaaga-o.
I pray with intense devotion, and offer this soul to Him.
ਅਰਥ ਆਨ ਸਭਿ ਵਾਰਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਨਿਮਖ ਸੋਹਾਗਉ ॥੨॥
arath aan sabh vaari-aa pari-a nimakh sohaaga-o. ||2||
I would sacrifice all other riches, for a moment's union with my Beloved. ||2||

In plain words

You could pour your whole heart into one honest prayer, offering everything you are.

All the riches in the world would be a fair trade for even a single moment close to the One you love.

A single moment of closeness can be worth more than everything you own.
The deeper layer

Everything is worth giving for one moment with the Beloved.

Kara-o benti at ghanee, ih jee-o homaaga-o means "I pray with my whole heart, and I offer this very self." Jee-o means the soul, the living self.

Arath aan sabh vaaria, pria nimakh sohaaga-o means "I would give up all other riches for one moment of union with my Beloved." Nimakh means an instant, a blink of an eye. Sohaag means the joy of being together with the one you love.

Think of a grandparent who lives far away. You might trade every toy you own for one real hug. That is the feeling here. All the wealth in the world weighs less than one true instant of closeness.

A Question to Sit With

What is a moment you would trade a lot of stuff to have again?
