In plain words

Listen, my friends, to the glory of the Sangat.

The dirt washes away, countless wrongs are cleared, and the mind turns spotless and clear.

Who you spend time with slowly becomes who you are.
The deeper layer

The Sangat changes us from the inside.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad, and everything else grows from it.

Mahimaa saadhoo sang kee sunhu mayray meetaa means "listen, my friends, to the glory of the Sangat." Saadhoo sang is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One.

Mail khoee kot agh haray nirmal bha-ay cheetaa means the dirt is washed away, countless wrongs are cleared, and the mind becomes spotless. Nirmal means clean and clear.

Think of how you pick up the way your friends talk and act. Spend time with kind, honest friends, and you slowly become kinder and more honest too. The Sangat is like clean water running through a muddy glass.

A Question to Sit With

Who makes you feel clearer and better just by being around them?
