ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਚੇਲਾ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣੀ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
aapay gur chaylaa hai aapay aapay gunee niDhaanaa.
You Yourself are the Guru, and You Yourself are the chaylaa, the humble disciple; You Yourself are the treasure of virtue.
ਜਿਉ ਆਪਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਤਿਵੈ ਕੋਈ ਚਾਲੈ ਜਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਭਗਵਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
ji-o aap chalaa-ay tivai ko-ee chaalai ji-o har bhaavai bhagvaanaa. ||3||
As You cause us to move, so do we move, according to the Pleasure of Your Will, O Lord God. ||3||

You are the Guru and You are also the disciple. You are the whole treasure-house of every good quality.
However You set things moving, that is how each of us moves — just as it pleases the One.
The One is Guru and disciple both — every good quality flows from a single source.
Aapay gur chaylaa hai aapay dissolves even the teacher-disciple pair into oneness — a striking move, since the Guru is so central in Sikhi. Gunee niDhaanaa names the One as the storehouse from which every virtue is drawn.
