Sikhism·Raag Bilaaval·Shabad 71
Verse 3 of 5

Remember the Giver

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਿਮਰੀਐ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ॥
simrat simrat simree-ai so purakh daataar.
Meditate, meditate, meditate in remembrance on the Primal Lord, the Great Giver.
ਮਨ ਤੇ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
man tay kabahu na veesrai so purakh apaar. ||2||
May I never forget that Primal, Infinite Lord from my mind. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Again and again, I remember the great Giver, the One behind all that is given.

May that endless One always stay bright in my mind.

Remember the Giver, and gratitude keeps flowing.
The deeper layer

Simrat simrat simree-ai, so purakh daataar — the repetition of loving remembrance; man tay kabahu na veesrai, so purakh apaar — may that endless One always stay in mind. The Giver, not the gifts, is the focus.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a giver in your life you want to keep remembering?
