Doing Good, Wishing No Harm

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਸੁਖਿ ਬਸੇ ਸਭ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਲੋਚ ॥
jee-a jant sabh sukh basay sabh kai man loch.
All beings and creatures dwell in peace; the minds of all yearn for the Lord.
ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਚਿਤਵਤੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਛੁ ਪੋਚ ॥੨॥
par-upkaar nit chitvatay naahee kachh poch. ||2||
Those who continually remember the Lord, do good deeds for others; they harbor no ill will towards anyone. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

All around, hearts settle into peace, each one quietly longing for the One.

Those who keep the One in mind do good for others all the time, and hold no ill will toward anyone.

A heart at peace naturally wants to do good and wishes no one harm.
The deeper layer

Jee-a jant sabh sukh basay, sabh kai man loch — beings at peace, longing for the One; par-upkaar nit chitvatay, naahee kachh poch — doing good, holding no ill will. The ethic of service and goodwill (nirvair) is foregrounded.

A Question to Sit With

What is one kind thing you could do for someone today?
